EPB officials are currently rehanging power lines after a dump truck overturned on Desales Avenue, taking out an entire utility pole and affecting almost 60 customers.

About 600 feet of power lines were stripped down after a dump truck tipped over outside of Memorial Hospital, EPB Project Consultant Ken Jones said.

The utility pole was replaced by 5 p.m. and crews are still working to rehang the destroyed power lines, he said.

The accident affected three transformers and hurt the cabling underground, EPB spokeswoman Deborah Dwyer said. The underground cable will have to be dug up and replaced, she said.

The accident affected 29 residential customers, 23 apartments on Citico Avenue, five houses on Derby Street, one house on Parkwood and the office building of the Orange Grove Center, Dwyer said. Power should be restored by 7 p.m., she said.
