(AP Photo/Daily News, Alex Slitz)ADAIRVILLE, Ky. - A southern Kentucky town is up in arms over a request by a local tavern to allow pole dancers to be paid for entertaining patrons at a bar straddling the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
Tenn-Tucky State Line Tavern owner Sheila Haley is seeking an entertainment permit for her business in Adairville in Logan County. Haley wants to pay her dancers, who currently entertain patrons for free at the bar which has an entrance and sells beer on the Tennessee side of the state line.
The discussion boiled over earlier this week, when about 100 people attended a hearing Tuesday to discuss the permit. The city council hasn't decided the fate of Haley's request.
After the meeting, Logan County Attorney Joe Ross said that as it is planned now, the business doesn't fall under the adult entertainment guidelines.
If the business were to be permitted, it would have to adhere to the plans as they stand, Ross said.
Haley told The Daily News (http://bit.ly/Jr46tn) that the entertainment will be limited to pole dancing by bikini-clad dancers. Haley said she would appeal if her permit is denied.
Bowling Green's Tattle Tails owner Tony Jones said he got flak when he first opened the club.
"But 20 years later, nobody cares," he said. "All they know is that I pay a bunch of money in taxes."
Russellville pastor Mark Keith said the dancing would be sexual in nature and likened it to pornography and said serial killer Ted Bundy has been interested in pornography.
"And I know an issue that is tearing many families apart is pornography," Keith said.
