A new study released by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation shows that crimes against the elderly is on the rise in Tennessee.

The study, the first of its kind in Tennessee looking specifically at victims 65 or older, found that crimes against the elderly rose 7 percent from 2009 to 2011. That's in contrast with overall crime, which has dropped about 4 percent during that same time.

The state found that at least 65,220 people 65 or older were victims of crime during that period. Crimes studied include fraud, assault, neglect and robberies.
