Calhoun police arrest six on video gambling charges

Calhoun, Ga., police executed search warrants at four local businesses Thursday afternoon and charged six people on gambling-related counts, Chief Garry Moss said in a news release.

The operation came after a month-long investigation by the Calhoun Police Department's special operation unit that found the businesses were illegally operating video gambling machines, the chief said. The businesses were paying out cash prizes to people playing video gambling machines, a violation of Georgia Code 16-12-22 pertaining to the commercial gambling act, according to the release.

The warrants were served at the BP, 312 North Wall St.; North Side Amusement, 235 West Line St.; Parkland Amusement, 203 Richardson Road; and the Marathon Station, Highway 53 Spur. Arrested were Abdul Rauf Abdullah, 53; Manuel Jesus Santos, 48; Monica Leanne Womack, 22; David B. Holden, 46; Kumar Thapa, 40; and Bahadur Thapa, 40, police said.

All six suspects have been charged with commercial gambling and keeping a place of gambling, Moss said.
