Hamilton County Schools enrollment up 890 students

Enrollment in Hamilton County Schools continues to rise.

The school system released its first-day enrollment figrues, which show 40,355 students counted on Monday. That's up 890 students from last year's first-day count of 39,465 students.

Monday's count showed growth at all school levels, with 20,070 students in elementary schools, 9,020 middle schoolers and 11,265 high school students.

Hamilton County enrollment numbers tend to trickle up throughout the first few weeks of school. Last year, 42,236 students were counted on the 20th day of school - a difference of more than 2,700 students.
