Police: 2 dead after crash with Memphis officer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Police say two people have died and two others are in "extremely critical" condition after a collision between a police officer's car and a vehicle carrying four people.

Col. Mike Ryall told The Associated Press on Sunday that an officer was responding to a call driving east when a private vehicle entered an intersection near Georgia Ave. and Walnut St., and the two vehicles collided.

Ryall says two people in the private vehicle died from injuries received in the crash and two others were considered "extremely critical" late Sunday afternoon.

The officer was being treated for injuries at an area hospital Sunday.

Ryall did not release the names of the deceased, the injured or the officer.
