LaFayette woman announces write-in campaign for Walker County commissioner

A LaFayette native has qualified as a write-in candidate for the Walker County sole commissioner seat, the first write-in effort in more than 30 years.

Ales Campbell will be a write-in candidate attempting to challenge Commissioner Bebe Heiskell, who scraped out a win against Dr. Paul Shaw in the recent GOP primary election.

Shaw was defeated by a little more than 200 votes and has thrown his support behind Campbell.

"I am 100 percent in support of Ales," Shaw said in a written statement. "I find little to nothing we disagree on in the problems and solutions for Walker County.

And Campbell believes with Shaw's support she may have a chance.

"Dr. Shaw did not just 'knock at the door' during his campaign. He beat is so hard it cracked. I intend to push it open the rest of the way," said Campbell in a written statement.

Supporters say more than 100 people are expected at a rally on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in Shaw's former office.
