School officials say families interested in enrolling their children in kindergarten next year at Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts or Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences should begin preparations soon.

Families must complete a four-step process to qualify for entrance into the admissions lottery. The process for CSLA and CSAS is different than for other Hamilton County magnet schools.

To qualify, families must attend a school tour, an orientation session, a session on the Paideia teaching philosophy used at the schools and a small group session.

Applications for the lottery selection process will be given out after the last session. The lottery is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Times and dates for the events are:

• Tours: CSAS, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27; CSLA, 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Call CSAS at 209-5816 or CSLA at 855-2614 to schedule a tour.

• Expectations/orientation session: CSLA, 6 p.m. on Oct. 2.; CSAS, 6 p.m. on Oct. 18

• Paideia philosophy session: CSLA, 6 p.m. on Oct. 23; CSAS, 6 p.m. on Nov. 1

• Small group seminar: CSLA, 6 p.m. on Nov. 8; CSAS, 6 p.m. on Nov. 13 and 15.
