Chattanooga-made Passat U.S. sales top 100,000

Sales of the Chattanooga-made Passat have surpassed the 100,000 mark for the year, officials said today.

The midsize sedan had its best November sales mark ever with 10,544 units sold, said Jonathan Browning, chief executive of Volkswagen Group of America. Year-to-date sales for Passat are 102,561.

Overall, VW's total U.S. sales climbed 29.3 percent in November over a year ago, the company said.

For the year, VW sales are 35 percent above the same period in 2011, according to VW.

Browning said year-to-date sales of 394,128 are more than 100,000 units above last year.
