Car falls, kills local man
A Chattanooga man died Wednesday evening trapped under a parked car that he had been working on, police said.
Thilbert Petty, 52, had been working on his 1992 Cadillac as it was parked in front of 1109 Sheridan Ave. The car fell on or rolled over him, Chattanooga police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation continues, police said.
Police seek runaway, 12
Chattanooga police were searching Wednesday for a 12-year-old boy who had been missing for about 24 hours, Hartwig said.
Tyrus Birt was last seen Tuesday. He has a history of running away and may be in a small silver vehicle, Hartwig said.
Tyrus is black, about 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs about 140 pounds. He is missing from 1200 E. 34th St.
Motorcycle crash victim identified
Chattanooga police have identified the drivers in a fatal crash Monday in the 5900 block of Lee Highway.
Police said Damon R. Corwine, 32, was driving a motorcycle and was struck by an SUV driven by Emmett Lee Tate, 48, who turned into the bike's path. Corwine was killed.
The investigation continues, Hartwig said in a news release.
Jail deputy's court date set
A Hamilton County Sheriff's Office corrections officer appeared in court Wednesday for three charges of forgery and three charges of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
Lori Pickett, who has been suspended without pay since July, had her court date moved to Feb. 27 before Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman.
Pickett, who is five years away from retirement, said she is waiting for her case to be resolved to see if she can return to work.
