Two families displaced by fire
Two families will spend Christmas without a home following a Saturday morning fire, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.
Neighbors noticed smoke coming from a second-story unit at 1209 Grove St. about 7:30 a.m., according to a news release. All of the residents made it out of the apartment safely.
A family of four and a mother and daughter lived in the upper and lower apartments, respectively. The American Red Cross is assisting the families.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
2 die in Rossville Boulevard crash
Two people died in an early morning traffic accident Saturday, Chattanooga police said in a news release.
Santiaze Hughes, 37, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wall while driving north on Rossville Boulevard just before 2 a.m., according to a news release.
Neither he nor his passenger, Latara Hughes, 33, was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
