More than 50 cats, plus an unknown number of dead ones, were found today inside an East Knox County home that a veteran animal control officer deemed one of the most rancid scenes he's encountered.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office was called to the residence at 4535 Murphy Road in response to neighbors' complaints.
Members of county codes enforcement and a hazardous materials team also responded to the house, where officials said they encountered animal feces ankle-deep in some places.
