Deputies from the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office today rearrested Monte Gale Salyer, 58, a Dalton State College associate professor of English, on additional child molestation charges.
Salyer first was arrested on Jan. 27 on charges that he molested an 8-year-old female relative. Investigators subsequently contacted a Tennessee girl, 16, and a Florida woman, 20, who both said that when they were younger Salyer befriended their families at church, offered to assist with the girls' education, and then molested them on a regular basis, according to a news release.
In addition to the original count of child molestation, Salyer has been charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes, two counts of aggravated sodomy and two counts of statutory rape.
Salyer, who surrendered without incident at his home on Marran Drive in Rocky Face, Ga., is being held in the Whitfield County Jail, authorities said.
