NASHVILLE - Legislators need to "back up" and do a better job of explaining a proposal by Gov. Bill Haslam to increase average classroom sizes in Tennessee, according to Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey.

"I don't want to say it's dead, but at the same time, we're regrouping and trying to figure out what local systems want," Ramsey, a Republican senator from Blountville, said today.

Ramsey said he believes Haslam, a fellow Republican who has made the classroom changes a top legislative priority, would agree.

Ramsey made the comments at the Tennessee Press Association's winter convention.
