East Tennessee school bus driver charged with carrying gun on job

A Sevier County bus driver has been fired after being arrested for allegedly carrying a gun on the job.

Frieda Rene Widner, 50, was arrested Friday afternoon at Seymour High School on a charge of carrying a weapon on school property, according to the arrest warrant.

A Sevier County sheriff's deputy had responded to a report of a school employee who possibly was armed. When Widner was confronted, she admitted she had a firearm, "but it was in a safe place," the warrant states.
