A McKee Foods Corp. truck was the first vehicle today to travel a newly-opened $9.6 million connector from I-75 to Collegedale.

"This project will ease some of the congestion in the area during peak travel times," said Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer, in a statement.

Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield said he thinks there will be new hotels and restaurants opening up at the I-75 interchange, which ties into Volkswagen Drive.

"It's an important new gateway for Chattanooga and Collegedale," the mayor said.
