Bowling-ball-wielding burglar nabbed on I-75

A man suspected of breaking into a Scottsville, Ga., convenience store by throwing a bowling ball through the window then stealing lottery tickets was caught hours later on Interstate 75.

Jeremy Thompson, 25, was pulled over on I-75 near Ringgold and arrested for driving under the influence and receiving stolen property, authorities said in a news release.

Thompson is being held in Catoosa County Jail and faces burglary charges in Gordon County, Ralston said.

When deputies searched Thompson's car, they found lottery tickets and over-the-counter medication as well as broken glass, the release said. Deputies notified Gordon County authorities about Thompson's whereabouts, said Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston.

Gordon County authorities first responded to an alarm at a convenience store on Highway 53 and found the smashed window and stolen goods, Ralston said, but the burglar had already fled.

Through a surveillance video, authorities were able to match clothes found in Thompson's car with the clothes the suspect was wearing at the time of the burglary, Ralston said.
