DETROIT -- Volkswagen today offered up two new green cars to go along with its Chattanooga-made diesel-powered Passat.

A new Jetta hybrid and a concept E-Bugster, an electric based on the Beetle, made their world debut at the North American International Auto Show.

"We'll continue our product offensive," said Martin Winterkorn, VW's chief executive, as the German automaker tries to about triple sales in the United States to 1 million vehicles by 2018.

The two new vehicles, which won't be made in Chattanooga, were driven onto the VW stage with the diesel Passat TDI and are designed to help the carmaker again become a top player in the U.S., officials said.
