A mother and her boyfriend will face the grand jury on charges they murdered the woman's 4-year-old son.

Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge David Bales sent charges against Kenneth Coleman, 21, and Patricia Brewer, 23, to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing this afternoon.

On Dec. 19, 2011, Tyre'ke Evans died from a swollen brain and lacerated liver shortly after being brought to the hospital, according to a medical examiner's report.

Police arrested and charged Coleman and Brewer with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in Tyre'ke's death.

The pair also face charges of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse in the beating of Brewer's other child, a 3-year-old boy.

Coleman admitted to police at the time of his arrest that he had beaten the boys with a belt before they were taken to the hospital.

Coleman is being held on a $4 million bond and Brewer on a $3 million bond and were ordered not to have any contact with the 3-year-old.
