Firefighters battled a large home fire this afternoon on Signal Mountain.

At 12:20 p.m., a neighbor called 911 reporting a house fire at 2609 Wilson Avenue, according to a news release from the Hamilton County EMS.

Walden's Ridge Emergency Services responded and arrived on the scene reporting heavy fire coming out the front door and the living room window.

The Signal Mountain Fire Department, Red Bank Fire Department, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue responded to the scene.

Firefighters said most of the fire was in the home's basement.

The homeowners, Charles and Donna Mayo, were at work when they were notified of the news.

Fire officials report the house is a total loss. Damages are listed at $350,000.

No injuries were reported, though the Mayo family's golden retriever died in the house.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The Mayo family was insured and will be staying with friends.
