Chattanooga officials hunt for person in river

Chattanooga police are searching for a patient who escaped from the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute and reportedly jumped into the Tennessee River just north of the facility Tuesday.

At about 7 p.m., police responded to a call that a white male had jumped from the roof of a building and climbed a fence before jumping into the river, according to police dispatch.

Police are searching for the 36-year-old man who was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts, according to a news release.

The Chattanooga Fire Department aided with the search early in the evening, but returned to regular duty around 10 p.m., according to dispatch.

The Moccasin Bend Health Institute declined to comment.
