The Rossville Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the City Four-Ball Championship Tournament at Moccasin Bend Golf & Country Club July 29 and 30 to raise funds for children of the community.
"We're a small club, but it's amazing what we can do," Kiwanis member Karen Phillips said.
The club, with nine members currently on its roll, has big aspirations for the upcoming golf tournament. Each year the tournament raises $10,000-$12,000, but tournament director Dennis Dyer said last year the tournament suffered due to the economy and raised only $4,500.
The 2011 tournament had 136 participants and normally averages close to 200, he said.
"We would really like to see 200 come out this year," Dyer explained. "It's the best golf in the area. Two days for $110 is a steal."
Dyer described Moccasin Bend Golf Club's beautiful green course by the river as 'duffer-friendly' and wide open.
The funds raised on the green will go to help children throughout the community, which the club has been doing since the 1960s, he said.
The club's primary focus over the years has been the Ridgeland High School Key Club, which recently went to Orlando for the Key Club International Convention. It also supports K-Kids at Chattanooga Valley Elementary, a group established for students to learn about service and leadership at a young age.
The club also works very closely with Walker County Family and Children Services.
"When they need immediate aid we try to jump on that situation," Dyer said. "If we weren't here those kids would go hungry."
