The Sequatchie County Schools and Sweetwater City Schools systems are among 21 districts across Tennessee recognized today as "exemplary" for improving student performance and narrowing achievement gaps between groups of students, a news release states.

The districts raised proficiency levels on Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment program tests, made "substantial" progress to close achievement gaps and ensured improvement for minority, disabled, poor and limited-English-proficiency students, according to the Tennessee Department of Education release.

"Growing results while closing achievement gaps is incredibly hard work," state Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman said. "We're excited with the overall results" statewide.
