RiverRocks issues call to artists

Artists living within 75 miles of Chattanooga are invited to submit proposals for a new addition to RiverRocks, the 10-day outdoors-based festival that celebrates the region's natural resources and the activities they inspire.

The Wild Trails Stump Art Show, produced by Wild Trails and the Association for Visual Artists, will showcase wooden sculptures using fallen trees along the trail at Stringer's Ridge. Artists will have an opportunity to view photos of fallen trees along the trail and list their top three preferences for particular trees. Works can be developed either on the ridge or in the artist's studio. Up to 10 artists will be selected.

Artists will receive a modest stipend to create the works ($200 if the work is done on-site, $150 if the wood is delivered to the studio).

Finished sculptures will be sited along a trail on the ridge during September and during the first weekend of RiverRocks, Oct. 6-7. They will be transported to Coolidge Park for the second weekend of the festival, Oct. 13-14, and will be available for purchase.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, June 29. For an application, visit www.avarts.org and click on Call To Artists.
