Neighbors of a homeowner in the Kilpatrick community of DeKalb County, Ala., caught an apparent burglar, according to a news release.

Franklin Ray Elkins, 41, is charged with burglary third degree and is being held in the DeKalb County jail where he awaits bond, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris states in the release.

His arrest came Wednesday after two men were spotted fleeing the victim's home as she arrived in the driveway of her home on County Road 386.

"A neighbor called out to her that two men were running from the rear of her house," Harris said. The neighbor alerted the rest of the neighborhood and a search for the fleeing burglars was on, he said.

Elkins was apprehended by the neighbors, he said.

"This is an excellent example of neighbors helping neighbors," Harris said.

Authorities are continuing the search for the other suspect, he said.

The sheriff said the homeowner reported that her rear door had been forced open, the bedroom was in disarray and a pillowcase was missing.
