GBI investigates a Fort Oglethorpe officer involved shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a Fort Oglethorpe police officer who shot at a man during an attempted burglary.

Ronald Lee Boltz, 56, was released from the hospital today and is in custody at Hamilton County Jail awaiting extradition back to Georgia, said Fort Oglethorpe Police Chief David Eubanks.

An officer spotted Boltz in the process of robbing and antique store Tuesday night and multiple officers surrounded the Gateway Mall, Eubanks said. Boltz attempted to run away with an unidentified object in his right hand, but the chief wouldn't say what the item turned out to be.

The officer - whose name has been withheld - then shot Boltz and he suffered non-threatening injuries, Eubanks said. He was taken to Erlanger and treated.
