New SMMHS principal settling into new role

A physical education teacher at Thrasher Elementary for seven years, new Signal Mountain Middle/High School principal Robin Copp is no stranger to the community. The former Sale Creek Middle/High School principal said she loves that the children of some of her Thrasher students will now be under her leadership at SMMHS, and has enjoyed adjusting to her new workplace amidst such a supportive community environment.

"The good thing about this community is people are so helpful," she said. "Every meeting I've had has been extra productive and informative."

As she prepares for the coming school year, Copp has been busy meeting with staff members and parents eager to learn more about her and her plans for SMMHS.

"One thing I'd like people to know is I really do have an open door policy," said Copp. "I feel really strongly this is a community school and would like input from the community on the direction we want to take the school."

She said everyone she has spoken with thus far seems to share a similar vision - to continue strides the school has already made toward becoming one of the best in the state and top 100 in the nation.

"The teachers I have talked with have incredible ideas," Copp said. "I'm excited about working with them to see where we can take the school."

A graduate of Red Bank High School, Copp received her bachelor's from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a master's in education from the University of Georgia. She also earned a specialist in education degree from Tennessee Tech.

With two new assistant principals also starting in the fall, SMMHS will have an all-new administrative staff for the 2012-13 school year, aside from middle school assistant principal Lisa Huskey.

"I think we're going to make a good team," Copp said of the administration. "I think we all complement each other."
