Hamilton County commissioners have voted 7-1-1 not to approve a $275,000 increase for Sheriff Jim Hammond.

Seven commissioners voted against giving the sheriff extra funds to get him through June 30 in the black. Commissioners last year approved a similar $325,000 request from Hammond.

Employees and bills will still be paid from the sheriff's fund balance, though without legally required approval. The state comptroller's office confirmed Tuesday that this could result in an audit finding.
