Police in Calhoun, Ga., are looking for three suspects who broke into a store, but are believed to be a part of a larger group of thieves that travels across the South.
The three people, one man and two women, were seen entering Wilco Travel Plaza off U.S. Highway 41 on June 18 around 10 p.m., said Police Chief Garry Moss in a news release. The two women distracted a clerk while a man pried open the door to an office, Moss aid.
After an employee entered the office and found the suspect going through a desk, the man ran out the office into the parking lot, Moss said, and when several employees tried to stop him, the suspect pulled a handgun.
The three then fled in a champagne-colored Volvo and are believed to have escaped on Interstate 75, the chief said.
Police now believe the suspects were a part of a larger group that has traveled through Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia and were caught on video committing similar thefts, said Detective Lt. Tony Pyle in the news release.
