NASHVILLE - Saying he comes from that "crazy city on the hill," U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann today complimented Tennessee lawmakers on how they manage state government in comparison to Washington.

"What you have done through your leaders, I thank you for it," Fleischmann, R-Tenn., told the Republican-controlled House. "I come from that crazy city on the hill that sadly taxes, borrows and spends without regard to deficits, without regard to national debt and that's unfortunate.

"I want to thank each and every one of you ... for balancing your budget like we should do in Washington," he added.

He noted that he joined a successful effort that got the Obama administration to back off on plans that would have required states and local governments to make older traffic signs more reflective for night-time drivers.

That saved Tennessee between $50 million to $55 million, said Fleischmann, who also addressed state senators.
