Chattanooga police wrote 67 citations Friday to drivers not observing the Move-Over Law during a city sweep focusing on drivers who don't move over a lane for emergency or utility vehicles, Officer Nathan Hartwig said.
Adopted after two law enforcement officers were killed in 2002 and 2003 in New York while they were on the shoulder of a road, the Move-Over Law has been adopted by states and municipalities throughout the nation, Hartwig said.
In addition to the 67 citations issued for violating the Move-Over Law, 47 citations were issued for speeding; nine for seat belt violations; 33 for no insurance; 13 for driver's license violations; 20 for vehicle registration violations; two for vehicle equipment violations; one for traffic control device violation and one for failing to yield the right of way during the "saturation," Hartwig said.
One arrest was made on a warrant, Hartwig said, but no specific information was available.
