A police officer in Ider, Ala., has been charged with domestic violence, authorities say.

Charles Keith Murphree was arrested Monday on charges of third-degree domestic violence, said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris in a news release.

Murphree, 42, of Henagar, was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he remains, awaiting the setting of a bond, Harris said.

The arrest stems from an incident at the end of January, the sheriff said, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the extent and frequency of the alleged abuse.

Depending upon the outcome of the investigation, other charges may be filed, Harris said.
