NASHVILLE - Rep. Tommie Brown, D-Chattanooga, will hold a "gang intervention summit" on Saturday at Howard High School in Chattanooga with 28th Legislative District constituents.

The event begins at noon. A news conference is planned for 11:30 a.m.

"Our purpose is to leave the session with an action plan for a long term attack on the negative impact of unfettered criminal actions in our neighborhoods," Brown said in a news release. "We hope to train a group of informed citizens to become advocates and citizens who will commit to an active role in finding solutions to the youthful gang problems that we face."

Neighborhood association members, parents, community organization leaders and residents of the district are invited to attend.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn will address the enforcement and prosecution of state or federal laws including the city of Chattanooga's proposed Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act expansion legislation pending in the General Assembly.

Brown said Gwyn will also identify community-based interventions that can help make Chattanooga neighborhoods safer.
