East Ridge, Red Bank, Lakesite candidates start election process

Potential candidates for Hamilton County municipal elections are beginning to throw their names into the hat.

Today is the first day candidates can pick up and file qualifying papers at the Hamilton County Election Commission to become eligible to appear on the ballot.

As of 11 a.m., a handful of folks had already stopped by the commission to start the process.

For East Ridge, longtime councilman Denny Manning has picked up papers. So has Marc Gravitt, who landed in third place with about 1,500 votes during 2010 council elections for two seats, but wasn't appointed by council to fill the vacancy left when Brent Lambert became mayor.

For Red Bank, Eddie Pierce picked up papers for the city commission's at-large seat. Earlier this year he applied for a temporary commission seat, but commissioners later named Ken Welch to the position.

Also, Signal Mountain Mayor Bill Lusk picked up a petition to run for town council and John McPherson has started the process to run for Lakesite's commission.

The Nov. 6 election will include ballots for seats in East Ridge, Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy, Signal Mountain, Walden and Lakesite.

The deadline to turn those papers in deadline is Aug. 16.

The Times Free Press will update the list of people picking up papers through the day. For complete coverage, see Saturday's Times Free Press.
