Pat Summitt will visit the White House on Tuesday to receive the President Medal of Freedom.

The honor was announced on April 19, the day Summitt formally stepped down as Tennessee's women's basketball head coach and passed her whistle to new coach Holly Warlick during a press conference at Thompson-Boling Arena. Summitt has assumed a new role as head coach emeritus for the women's program. The original announcement didn't specify the date of the medal presentation by President Barack Obama.

The Medal of Freedom is our nation's highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
