Victim fights off suspected armed robbers with lumber in Chattanooga

A Chattanooga man has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated robbery after he allegedly approached a victim with a gun only to be beaten back with a board, suffering injuries that landed him in the emergency room.

Three men approached Pedro Francisco-Pedro and Mateo Pascual-Ramon at Francisco-Pedro's residence on South Willow Street and demanded money, according to a police report. One robber brandished a silver revolver, the report said.

Francisco-Pedro grabbed a long board from his porch railing and hit the gunman in the face, causing all three to flee.

Suspect Labron Kirkwood said he went home and got a ride to Parkridge Hospital. When an officer arrived at the hospital, Kirkwood was lying on a table covered in blood and had a large cut on his face, according to the report.

Kirkwood told police that he was injured in a basketball game, then that he was injured in a fight with a Hispanic man, the report said. He denied trying to rob Francisco-Pedro and said he did not have a gun.

Kirkwood is set to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge David Bales on June 12.
