Toddler killed by gunfire in Atlanta

ATLANTA - A toddler was killed and her infant brother seriously wounded by gunfire early Saturday morning as they slept alongside their grandmother, authorities and family members said.

Police said two bullets were fired through the door of a home in south Atlanta, striking 2-year-old Ty-Teyanna Motley and her 1-year-old brother, Isaiah. They were sleeping with their grandmother on a sofa bed inside the home, said the victim's uncle, Charlie Howard.

The girl was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The boy was in stable but critical condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Howard said the boy suffered a gunshot wound near his spine.

"We never had any problems with anybody," Howard told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Whoever did that was a coward. My niece was only 2 years old. If they had a problem, they should just tell us."

Police said they had no immediate leads and had not made any arrests.
