Sale Creek to feed veterans Nov. 11

Sale Creek Middle/High School Parent Teacher Student Association invites local veterans to stop by for a free meal inside the school gymnasium Nov. 11 at the Sale Creek PTSA Veterans Day Luncheon and Bazaar from noon to 4 p.m.

The meal is being catered by Choo Choo Barbecue and consists of chicken and dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls, desserts and soft drinks.

"I'm in an Army family," said PTSA president Lori Storey, of Sale Creek. "I've been an Army wife for many years and we want to honor veterans. We thought people might like to come have Sunday lunch with us."

Since the event is also a school fundraiser, a silent auction will showcase themed baskets to bid on, including a tanning basket, coffee basket, Christmas basket, U.S. Army basket, Tennessee Volunteers basket, bath and body basket, baby basket, pasta basket and many more.

Vendors, who must pay a fee to the school for a space, will be on-site including Thirty-One Gifts, a silver jewelry maker, homemade jam maker, sand artist, puppet maker, hair bow maker, body-wrap-for-weight-loss consultant and a Christmas booth.

"We want to get the community involved with it," said PTSA volunteer April Mullikin, of Sale Creek. "This is our first veterans' luncheon. This is also our big school fundraiser for the year. Veterans eat free, but other guests pay $10 to eat."

Revenue gained from the event will help supply two $500 scholarships to graduating Sale Creek seniors. The remaining proceeds will go in the school's general fund for school supplies and technology upgrades.
