UTC is getting a $100,000 grant for installing an innovative solar panel and geothermal heating and air-conditioning system, a top state official said today in Chattanooga.

State Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau said the grant is one of four valued at $780,000 to fund energy efficiency projects at Tennessee educational institutions.

In Hamilton County, UTC will install the system at the Advanced Vehicle Test Facility building.

Martineau told people at the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association's environmental summit that the installation will be capable of generating more energy than the facility consumes.

The annual cash savings will be about $6,800, he said in a news release.
