Lanes on Interstate 24 at mile marker 174 will be closed Saturday and Sunday so TVA can move an oversized transformer to the Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Facility, according to a news release.

Crews with Edwards Moving & Rigging will close the fast lane of I-24 east and west at mile marker 174 from 7 a.m. to noon to remove the cable guardrail and build a median crossover for the truck hauling the transformer, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation news release.

Starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, TDOT HELP trucks and vehicles from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will pace traffic on I-24 as the load is moved across the interstate and onto U.S. 41 at the Tiftonia exit.

Afterward, the lanes will remain closed while the median crossover is removed and the cable guardrail restored. All lanes should be reopened to traffic by noon at the latest, the TDOT release states.

Traffic on U.S. Highway 41 also will be affected as the oversized load is taken to Raccoon Mountain.
