Rescuers search Altamaha River for missing hunter

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Rescuers are searching the Altamaha River for a Glynn County man who left by boat to hunt hogs and never returned.

Authorities said 63-year-old Donald Floyd left the dock at Altamaha Regional Park on Thursday headed to a local wildlife management area. He did not return by dark as expected.

The Brunswick News (http://bit.ly/Xm79ME ) reports that rangers from the Department of Natural Resources, local police and others have been searching for him since.

DNR Capt. Doug Lewis said Floyd's boat was found Friday south of the park. It appeared to have struck something and become disabled. Lewis said a strong current, high tides and river debris have made the water dangerous.

Floyd's brother-in-law, the Rev. Jimmy Byars, died during a fishing trip in the same river in November of 2008.
