Hamilton County Election Commission secretary Jerry Summers said an abrupt Election Night vote to name the commission's building after late elections administrator Bud Knowles "smacks of politics."

"I have nothing against Bud Knowles, he was a close friend of mine," said Summers. "But when you name a building after one person, I think it's disrepectful of those that served before and after."

The idea of naming the building after Knowles has been voted down by the election commission once before.

Summers also said that the fact that the item was not placed on the agenda until that night, a move he said violated the spirit of the Sunshine Law.

Commission Chairman Mike Walden, who placed the item on the agenda, said curtly that Summer's position was "noted."

The final decision whether to name the building will be made by the Hamilton County Commission.
