Marion probes death of child

A suspicious death investigation is under way in Marion County after a child was found dead inside a car in the Sequatchie River, WRCB-TV reported Sunday.

Marion County detectives told WRCB the boy was 8 or 9 years old and that he didn't drown. The boy's mother, Lindsey Newsome, was alive in the passenger seat and her boyfriend, Nicholas Mosier, was alive in the driver's seat.

The state medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine how he died.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office, the TBI and Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating, WRCB reported.
