3 arrested on drug charges

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. - Two women and a man have been arrested on drug charges, authorities said.

Heather Dowdy was charged with possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Maloy was charged with possession of a controlled substance, second-degree receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, the release said, while Natasha Abbott was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, law officers served a warrant for probation violation at a home in the Rodentown community, the release said. They also were investigating complaints of excessive traffic coming and going from the home at all hours.

While searching the home, officers found more than 10 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, a stolen shotgun and $2,400 in cash, the release stated.


Helicopter saw to trim trees

RINGGOLD, Ga. - North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. crews will be trimming trees by helicopter along rights of way in the northern Catoosa County/Ringgold area and in northwestern Whitfield County from Monday through Saturday, a news release states. Ground cleanup crews will be in those areas over the next two to three weeks.

The helicopter saw is used along power lines that are not accessible by bucket truck.

Authorities said power service interruptions will be minimal, with most areas experiencing no interruption of service.

Freedom park ground broken

ANNISTON, Ala. - Crews broke ground Thursday on Freedom Riders Park commemorating a 1961 attack on civil rights workers.

A mob attacked a bus carrying civil rights activists known as Freedom Riders just outside Anniston on May 14, 1961, as they were traveling to test a Supreme Court decision desegregating travel stops.


Website shows TVA land trails

KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee Valley Authority has a new Web page for outdoors enthusiasts.

TVA Trails lists dozens of public trails covering 137 miles on the utility's land in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Following the link http://1.usa.gov/TvdH37 will display all of the trails, their locations, how long they are, the difficulty of the terrain and their uses.
