Police rescue man trapped beneath bridge

NASHVILLE - Nashville emergency crews received a strange call - a man was trapped along the banks of the Cumberland River about 30 feet below a bridge near downtown.

Metro Police were driving near the Woodland Street bridge at about 4 a.m. CDT Saturday when they heard someone shouting. WTVF-TV in Nashville reported that officers found the man on the banks of the river. Crews used a rope and bucket system to pull the man to safety.

Police were trying to determine how the man ended up below the bridge. Officers did not have an initial assessment of whether the man was injured.
