Tennesseans showed up in "huge" numbers during the first two days of early voting in the Nov. 6 election, according to Secretary of State Tré Hargett.

More than 100,000 voters cast ballots on Thursday, the second day of early voting, bringing the overall total to 228,245, Hargett said.

"Tennessee voters clearly want their voices to be heard in this election," Hargett said in a news release.

"I am grateful to the county election officials who have worked hard to prepare for this large turnout" he said.

Early voting continues daily except Sundays through Nov. 1.

Under a law passed last year, voters must bring state or federally issued photo identification in order to vote. Voters who are already registered can vote by mail-in absentee ballots.
