NASHVILLE - The National Rifle Association has endorsed U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, R-Tenn., over Democrat Eric Stewart in Tennessee's 4th Congressional District.

In a letter to its Tennessee members, the NRA's Political Victory Fund said the Jasper physician "earned an 'A' rating by fighting for your firearms freedom in congress, and now he needs your help to ensure our second amendment rights and hunting heritage are protected,'" according to a release from DesJarlais' campaign.

The NRA praised DesJarlais for his support of gun lobby group's "National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act." The bill would have allowed anyone with a valid concealed handgun permit to carry their firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

Stewart, the NRA said, voted against Tennessee's so-called "guns in bar" law, which allows permit holders to bring their weapons into restaurants that sell alcohol provided they do not drink.
