A dog was euthanized after being exposed to a raccoon that tested positive for rabies in Ellijay, Ga., Saturday.

The 3-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and the raccoon fought at the dog's home on Craigtown Road on Sept. 1, according to a news release. The raccoon's head was shipped to the Georgia State Laboratory where it tested positive for rabies a few days later.

The dog was euthanized because it was not up to date on its rabies vaccinations, the release said.

No humans were exposed.
