Prescription drug take back nets 350 pounds of pills in Blount

More than 350 pounds of prescription medication have been taken out circulation and potentially out of the hands of those who may abuse the drugs, said a member of the Blount County Substance Abuse Prevention Team.

Jessica Stith, grant manager with the team as well as the Blount Memorial Foundation and Community Outreach Project manager, said that the drug take-back event today at the Blount County Justice Center was a success.

"That's 350 pounds of medication out of the hands of kids and possible abusers," Stith said. "It lowers the chance people will be victims of burglary or robbery and it is also better for the environment because that medication is not being flushed into the water system or thrown away."
