BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Paramount Pictures is preparing to bring major Hollywood stars to the Golden Isles for its sequel to the 2004 comedy hit, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."
A state development authority official said in February that Paramount had been scouting the area for sites for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," but nothing had been confirmed.
Now, Paramount is preparing to build sets and film at locations on St. Simons Island between April 22 and May 8.
The film is the sequel to the story of a male television news anchor who is challenged when a female colleague tries to work her way up the ranks.
Will Ferrell will reprise his role as Burgundy and Christina Applegate will return as newswoman Veronica Corningstone. Steve Carell will again portray station weatherman Brick Tamland.
Plans call for use of the Old Coast Guard Station Beach on St. Simons Island for filming of a beach wedding and scenes involving a tidal pool. Paramount has asked for permission to use 6th Street to access an area where a mock lighthouse will be constructed.
"Many of the impacts on Coast Guard Beach will be similar to an outdoor wedding," the application says.
Crews will use a section of the St. Simons Island pier in the Pier Village for a scene involving a shark that will be filmed as special effects without a real shark.
A Gruber Aviation hangar at McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport will be used for staging and set building. Renn Gruber, owner of Gruber Aviation, says he believes the project will stimulate the local economy and provide notoriety for the island airport. "I'm just one small part of what's being offered by Glynn County," he said.
The Glynn County Commission recently approved allowing Paramount Pictures to use public property for filming in late April.
